Nearly 1 in 5 (18%) of all Christmas shopping will be purchased on Cyber Monday in the UK – with the consumer spending an average of £102 each.

According to Experian “Cyber Monday” in the UK, the biggest online shopping day of the year before Christmas will be on Monday 3rd December.

Makes sense, since the majority of consumers will have received their final pay packet before the festive season the week.

A recent survey of 2,000 consumers commissioned by online accreditation company, Trusted Shops, found 65% consumers plan do shopping online on Monday and will spend an average of £102 each, whilst more than a quarter (28%) of shoppers will spend in excess of £100.

However despite the huge sales, shoppers are unlikely to shop with retailers that they are not familiar with or deem trustworthy, this could be part of the reason that well known brands such as Amazon do so well.

Jean-Marc Noel, co-founder and managing director of Trusted Shops, said “It’s vital that retailers ensure their websites and teams are ready for what could be a record breaking day.”

However whilst Experian predict the biggest ever Christmas for online sales, the Trusted Shops survey found that more than 26% of people reported they would be spending less this Christmas compared to last year.

Retailers will have to work harder than ever to ensure that £102 per consumer is spent at their store.
